The 1997 contest was bigger than ever with about 400 entries and the first-ever
Grand Prize for videography in addition to photography. Plus it
became an international competition - entries from Canada as well as the United
States were welcome. Judges were (pictured at right, left to right) Rick Sammon, David Doubilet, David Millhouser, Bob Abrams, Herb Segars, and Roland Thomasett.
The Best-In-Show prize for slides in 1997 was the David Doubilet Award for Excellence in Photography plus a one-week vacation aboard Peter Hughes'
liveaboard dive boat
Wind Dancer in the Bay Islands, Honduras,
with round trip airfare for two
provided by Taca Airlines. And there were many other
awards and prizes including equipment from premier manufacturers!

The Stan Waterman Award for Excellence in Underwater Videography,
and one week on board
the winner's choice of the two Aggressor Fleet liveaboard dive boats in the
Galapagos Islands, plus round trip airfare provided by Saeta Airlines.
